Thanks for your interest in my seats.
Every seat I make is 100% hand made,
hand tooled, hand dyed and  hand laced.
Each seat takes at least 15 - 20 hours to make...
some upwards of 40 hours.

We only use the highest quality materials
so you can rest assured you are getting the best quality product.

I get calls everyday from all over the world and the most common question I am asked is "How much is a custom seat going to cost"?

Every Custom Seat is different and it is difficult to give a quote by just asking "How much is a custom seat going to cost".  In the beginning stages of every project, it is important to me that I work closely with each customer to determine exactly what they want and then develop a project plan - together.  On occasion I am asked to "Just make something wicked".  This is fine too as what you get then is a true Manta Custom!  However a lot of the time my seats are going on show bikes and the builder wants a specific look.    Either way, once everything is finalized is when the fun starts!

This is typically how it works...  Keep these things in mind when you are designing or requesting information on a Custom Seat.  I need this info before I can give a true quote...  Please don't hesitate to call anytime if you have questions, or email us at info@mantacustomleather.com.

  1. You need to supply the seat pan.  I don't have access to your frame and cannot build one for you.  If you have the resources, fabricate one.  If you don't, there are plenty of places that will be able to help you.  You can probably find someone in your town or city,  you just need to do a bit of leg work.   Make sure the pan is going to  fit your project nice and tight.  Make sure you know how it will mount before you ship it & that any mounting hardware is set up before I get it.  When asking for a quote,  it helps if I know how big the pan is.  Measure the pan & send me the dimensions. When building the mounts, keep in mind that the sides will be laced, usually with an "x" stitch to the top piece of leather that the side pieces of leather will be stretched under the pan & riveted to it.  I always finish the pan with edging & a coat of paint to prevent rusting so you can send raw metal,  just make sure there are no gigantic burrs on the edges.   The bottom of the pan will also be covered to give a professional look to the finished product.

  2. Another option you have is a second piece of leather on the bottom with cutouts & leather tooling.  This allows you to have a chromed or powder coated seat pan and an extra bit of tooling done on the bottom piece of leather (example 1.1).  It  looks cool and if you ever plan on entering the bike in shows,  it adds a little extra "cool".  The bottom piece & the top piece of leather will be laced with an "x" stitch.  Call for details and pricing.

  3. The next thing you should do is decide how thick you want the foam based on the profile of the frame. Everyone has a different idea of how a seat profile should look and the amount of material used is determined by the "height" of the seat foam.  If you can send me some pictures of the frame I can visualize how it will look...  If you can also send some pictures of the seat pan on the frame that would be cool!  Drawings work great too.  If I have the seat dimensions and a drawing of your desired shape,  this make things simple for the both of us.  If you go with the second piece of leather at the bottom,  the seat will be a very low profile seat with just over 1/2 -  an inch of high density foam.

  4. Art Work!!!   We need to figure out the art & what you want tooled into the top of the seat.   Or send me some links to graphics that you are thinking about. I will review them.  Let me know if you want me to put something together...

  5. How much is it going to cost?  Once you know the answers to all the above questions,  email all this info to me (with pictures or drawings) so we can come up with the answer to the question "How much is a custom seat going to cost"?   As you can see, it all depends on the detail in the design...  number of colours used in the dying process etc.  etc.

  6. How do we get the project started?    I need the seat pan and 1/2 the money up front.   Due to the fact that  I do 90% of my stuff over the net, I require 50%  of the agreed to price up front by money order and 50% on delivery - Plus shipping (you can thank the dick weeds that burned me for this policy) .  You can add the shipping to the last payment or split it up into a couple payments as the project moves forward.   If I like you... I am usually pretty flexible.

  7. How long does it take to receive my seat?   My turn around time is about 1 month from start to finish.  If you know what you want & we don't have to spend a lot of time on the phone or sending emails back and forth,  this usually cuts off about 2 weeks...  However for international/cross boarder orders I like to bet on 2 weeks for shipping & 2 weeks on my bench. This is dependant on several factors but shouldn't add more than a week (Factors include: Canadian/US Customs (I live in Canada), back log, availability of supplies, detail going into the seat etc. etc.).  Basically it is 3 weeks from the time I start working on it until you receive it... However,  keeping the potential time adding factors in mind.
  8. Lastly, if I don't think it will look cool,  I will let you know.  I've been doing this for a long time and I have seen some UGLY ideas & some disgusting looking seats made for people by other wannabe seat builders...  I won't build it if it isn't going to suit the bike.

That is it.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks again for your interest in my work.
